The University of Northwestern Ohio has been granted reaffirmation of accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), following the Institutional Actions Council's action on February 17, 2026. The next comprehensive Reaffirmation of Accreditation visit is scheduled for 2035–2036.
The decision reflects years of dedicated work by UNOH faculty, staff, and administration who collaborated across departments to demonstrate the University’s commitment to academic quality, operational excellence, and student achievement.
“This reaffirmation represents the collective commitment of our faculty, staff, and administration to our students and to our mission,” said University President Dr. Jeffrey Jarvis. “I take great pride in being part of an institution focused on educating people to become productively employed in their chosen career paths, while providing a campus environment that encourages involvement, academic success, and lifelong friendships.”
Preparation for the reaffirmation process required extensive institutional self-study, documentation, assessment analysis, and campus-wide engagement. Faculty and staff contributed countless hours gathering evidence, reviewing policies and procedures, assessing student learning outcomes, and aligning initiatives with the University’s mission and strategic plan. That strategic plan served as a central framework throughout the process, ensuring that academic programs, student services, campus life, and administrative operations are intentionally connected to measurable outcomes and continuous improvement.
“The reaffirmation of accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission assures our students and families that they have made a strong choice in attending UNOH,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Dean Hobler. “Our continuous improvement strategy ties every area of the University back to our strategic plan and to our mission of student success. We remain committed to offering high-quality education in business, health professions, occupational professions, and applied technologies fields while consistently evaluating and strengthening our programs.”
The HLC visiting team noted the University’s clear alignment between its mission, strategic initiatives, and operational practices. Throughout the review process, UNOH leadership highlighted how institutional planning, resource allocation, academic assessment, and student support services are interconnected with the ultimate goal of improving student retention, completion, and career readiness.
Following the site visit in November, Dr. Jarvis extended sincere thanks to faculty and staff whose preparation, participation in meetings, and commitment to excellence were instrumental in the positive outcome.
While the next comprehensive reaffirmation visit is scheduled for 2035–2036, accreditation is not granted for a fixed term. Rather, it is a continuing relationship between UNOH and the Higher Learning Commission, subject to ongoing review and compliance with established standards.
The University of Northwestern Ohio has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1987.
